MW's Top Tip: Hijab Pins

Tonight I wore a black and orange salwar kameez, and I wore a black hijab with it, but I wanted an orange pin...didn't have one. So I just applied 2 coats of orange nail polish onto a hijab pin. Left it to dry (poked into my hijab pin cushion). Few minutes later - ta da! I now have an orange hijab pin to match my outfit!

Easy peasy!! So, next time you have a nice outfit but don't have the perfect pin colour? See if you have a nail polish in that colour and get painting!!

Here is a pic of the hijab pins I painted. I painted a white one into a deep plum colour and the baby pink one into a rather sexy pink, instead. So much fun!! lol

MW's Purchase/Tip/Money-Saving

Hi Whirllers!

I purchased some long hijab pins off amazon recently! And they came through the post this morning! [Ordered on the 5th and delivered on the 8th - considering 5th was a Saturday, too. So, swift delivery.]

They're from the seller called: Daisy Craft Fabrics and the wheel is 75p. I purchased two at £1.50, with 99p for delivery for one wheel, but if you order more they do often give some sort of refund on delivery. So, my total came to £2.49!
Also they do other shapes, such as pearl circles, pear shapes, leaf shapes, etc, definitely worth a look at.

They're heart shaped long craft pins, but they'll be perfect for hijabs! They're 2 inches long, which is ideal and something I've been looking for! (I've included a photo of the pins next to a vaseline tin, to show the length - oh, and I had to colour co-ordinate the pins :p )

TOP TIP:
If I'm honest, they work out cheaper than most of these online hijab boutiques who sell four for the price of £2.25? I managed to purchase sixty for an extra 24p (and that includes p+p, not sure about p+p for online hijab boutiques)! So, in my eyes definitely a bargain!

MW's Not So Pleasant Experience

Hey Whirllers!
Well, yesterday I went out for Eid lunch with my girls in Westfields Stratford City. It was a good day until we went through The Stratford Centre and it was after Magrib and this khala guy with half of his face covered goes to me:
'Are you looking at me?'
I obviously wasn't because I wasn't wearing my glasses and have awful eye sight without them on, so I chose to ignore him and carry on walking. All of a sudden he's following us and asking me:
'Are you a muslim? Are you a muslim?'
At this point, my girls grabbed me and started power walking and their first instinct was he was hitting on me *rollseyes* and mine was 'HES GOING TO MUG ME' *bringshandbagtothefront* but what he said next brought me to utter horror and shock...
'You're a disgrace!'
I was mortified. I've only recently become a hijabi and to hear that? In Stratford? Of all places? I was shaking. Not out of anger but because I was scared. He was charging up behind us, what if he was about to attack us? Alhamdulilah, Alhamdulilah, a security guard came right then and I LITERALLY clung onto him as a shield. He started telling the guy off, saying his face shouldn't be covered, he's been harassing girls all day long.
The guy replies 'he's got mental incapabilities' - ermmmm, no offence, if you're mental, you don't usually say that as you're more likely oblivious to your problem? So we knew he was talking a load of rubbish. We walked off before he could follow us again.
But, yea, total dampener on my mood :( a couple of my friends were comforting me and I didn't want to ruin the evening so I tried to forget it and carry on with the evening. But, it did make me so much more paranoid.
Now, my previous post was about everything happening for a reason - this only brought me closer to Allah (swt). I'm proud of being Muslim. I'm proud that I wear the hijab and people know I've embraced Islam and I've been able to see the beauty of Islam. It's an experience, which I, insha'Allah, won't have to face again, anytime soon, but I've had my first one and I wasn't alone, so that was alright. Just have to surround myself Muslimah's and insha'Allah I'll be alright. I just gotta keep my head held high and reassure myself that Allah (swt) would never put me in a situation that I cannot handle.
Sorry for such a boring post, and no pictures, but I've always treated my blogs as a diary and blogspot will not be the exception and I felt I had to write this down, to get it off my chest.
Sisters, please always be with a mahraam, large group of muslimah's. He saw 3 hijabi's, no mahraam - opportunity to scare them. (Another reason as to why Islam is beautiful. Having a male mahraam everytime you go out could seem like a nuisance but done so for our own benefit - not be harassed by males, etc)
Has anyone else been in a similar situation? How did you react? Did it bring you closer to Islam?

MW's Thinking Period: Struggling

I spoke to close friend of mine today, and we came across the topic of 'Allah (swt) giving up on us'. She felt this can happen and I felt I had to reassure her as I personally don`t believe this. I explained to her why I always feel Allah (swt) is ALWAYS, ALWAYS with us.

I explained that every struggle we are faced with, we`re facing it for a reason, the fact we are struggling, is a sign that Allah (swt) is guiding us. This is why our Nabi (sws) said:
"When Allah desires good for someone, He tries him with hardships." (Al-Bukhari)

This is a typography I made last year on my old blog:

I really think its a statement that everyone should remember, not to be disheartened completely by the outcome, to overcome it, keep faith in Allah (swt) and carry on with life. Everything happens for a reason and has been perfectly calculated, we may not know it now, but one day we`ll realise why we were faced with that hardship.
I made this typography because I was going through a bad time, and I needed a reason as to why I was put in that situation, I studied into it and that was what I learnt from it - everything is perfectly calculated.

I also asked her: 'Would you rather be in a situation, struggling and thinking of Allah (swt) and praying to Allah (swt) than being happy, in a good place and forgetting Allah (swt)? She obviously answered correctly and said the former.

SOLUTION:
Praying is the answer to majority of our problems, if we want to talk to Allah (swt) - pray. If we want a message from Allah (swt) - read the Quran. The answer is there. Even taking a moment to pray, tears flowing, heart open, can do a lot of good for a persons mentality.

Often in these situations, its probably best to take a step back and reassess your life -
- Are you praying five times a day? If not, try to. Obviously, nowadays with the hustle and bustle of everyday life, praying can be overlooked, but if we have 10 minutes to go onto facebook and see what everyone is upto, then we must surely have the same amount of time to do our Fard namaz five times a day?
- Are you surrounding yourself with good people, with pure intentions? Someone that will guide you when you`re falling down? Usually, we go for people we click with, but sometimes these people aren`t good for us in the long run. Its advised to surround ourselves with Muslimah`s who have the same intentions, support you, wouldn`t pressure you to do things, etc. Join an Islamic Society, go to the local masjid - there are always sisters there.
- Are you reading the Quran? Instead of logging onto facebook, why not do wudhu and read the Quran.

There are many things we can do to overcome our struggles and by praying and showing our humility to Allah (swt) we will always be able to overcome these struggles.

So, my dear friend, please don`t think Allah (swt) ever gives up on us. Allah (swt) is always with us, however low you may feel, everything happens for a reason and be happy you`re thinking of Allah (swt) instead of moving away from Allah (swt) and thinking Allah (swt) has given up on us - are YOU doing enough to overcome those struggles?

I've seen the shortlist of the days! Looks rlly good! I think I might participate. Already got ideas whirling (geddit :p) around my head!
I did it last year, but I referred to it as 'wannabe-HFW' as I wasn't actually part of their group of people doing it and I wasn't a hijabi a year ago! I might add the pictures in a future post.

MW's goody/Eidi present from ALDO

Okay, as you can see on my lushlist, I wanted a pair of riding boots. I had my eye on the combined two tone riding boots by Zara!

When I went to the second Zara, which stocked them, they didn't look very nice in real life. They actually looked quite cheap and not at all near the price tag worth! Some of the boots had zips broken, already?! And, weren't even sold yet? Scratches all over them, made me realise they would get ruined quickly. Resulting in mum yelling at me! LOL - massive doubts!

Definitely not going to purchase nearly £100 worth of boots with scratches all over it? Left Zara and sat down outside, saw ALDO. Best friend KNEW I wanted to go in there as they saw ALDO at the same time as me! Lol!

Went in and saw a two tone pair of boots and these brown riding boots, asked for both in my size. The two tone was nice, but the brown ones were the ones I wanted and fell in love with! I HAD to get them, but were £120! A bit outside my budget, so compromised with the Sales Assistant and said if I buy the cleaner too, he'll take off 10% off each product! So, it came to £113 something in total! How awesome? :D

So, now these are my winter boots for the next two years, insha'Allah! (Mum won't let me buy new ones next year)
