MW's Snapshot Saturday

Salam :)

I`m REALLY sorry for not replying to comments, I am reading them with a smile on my face, but I`ve been so hectic with life at the moment, my bloggy has taken a backseat, but I have a few scheduled posts lined up, so please do bear with me...and, I will babble away properly after I get back from my trip.

Hectic week, haven`t really taken photos :(

1. Went to Westfields in Stratford City, I really like this map they have on the wall facing the escalators as you`re going down to the mens section in Primark. Its a cartoon version of London.
2. STILL packing. I`ve come to the conclusion, I can never be able to travel light for ANY trip!! *annoying*
3. Just the outfit I wore when I went to Westfields, I`m actually in the H&M changing rooms lol. But, I wore black trousers, black jersey long vest, an animal print chiffon blouse over that, black blazer and my brown ballerina pumps to match that brown handbag.
4. This was a photo of a hijab stall in Whitechapel Market that I sent to my BFF who lives in the Midlands, I got caught taking the photo. *awkward* lol.

I`m SO silly. I had been craving gbk for over a week, and I had some when I went to Westfields, but I COMPLETELY forgot to take a photo. Bottoms :(

Anyway, hope you`re all well.
I`m uncertain about access to the internet on my trip so I may not be able to do my 'Snapshot Saturday' for a couple of weeks *sadface* but, if I can, I will definitely try!!

How has your week been?

MW's Make Up Storage

Whirlers, this is my current make up storage at home.

1. This is an acyrlic make up organiser. I bought this from John Lewis for £10-11 and its so handy. I put my everyday make up in here, so its close to reach and just easy to put back to keep the area tidy.
However, this can be achieved by buying those desktop pen/notepad holders, too.

2. These are my GlossyBoxes and they`re SO handy as the quality is so good and sturdy. They also look really pretty, so ideal storage boxes. They are filled with products that do not fit into the drawers, refill products, my extensive collection of bronzers and lipglosses and nail polishes.
I think these are a great alternative to actually purchasing storage boxes, which can cost £6 for just an empty box?

3. My uber soft pink towel that I use to dry my brushes on, any make up mishap, gets wiped on this. Its just handy to have on hand. (Don`t worry, it gets washed regularly, too.)
Pop in Primark and pick up a small face cloth to keep on hand when you apply make up.

4. THIS IS MY BABY!!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! This is an acrylic desk organiser, I think two drawers cost £10+ from MUJI and you can stack them up. (I`m going to add a few more drawers, after exams are over) I think these are so ideal for any girl who has lots of make up and loves to keep it organised. The top drawer is filled with my lip products. Second drawer is filled with bronzers and powders. Third drawer is filled with mascara's and eye shadow brushes. Fourth, is filled with my palettes.
I couldn`t think of a cheaper alternative, to be honest as I`d been looking high and low for something like this. Can/have you think/got an alternative to purchasing these drawers?

5. This is an acrylic pencil pot, which I converted into a make up brushes pot. I think these are so handy. I bought this from Rymans Stationary Store for £6, I think?
But, you can easily achieve this by going into a charity shop and find a nice mug/glass beaker for £1 and make that your make up brush pot.

* This is my handy and cheap alternative to a hijab pin cushion. You know when you get a watch, there is an inside foam/cushion that holds the watch? Those are PERFECT to store your hijab pins in. Instead of spending £4-5 on a cushion, have a look in your watch box and see if there is a suitable alternative and pins can be poked into it. This idea was discovered by my best friend, so all credits go to her. <3 *

What make up storage do you guys have? Give me some inspiration.

MW's NARS Day and Night Palette Review

Okay, background behind this NARS palette is that, I initially ordered the 'Danmari All About Cheeks' Palette. However, due to the volume of orders for that palette, they ran out and they didn`t notify me about it until a week later. I was disappointed with this customer servicing and as an apology they sent me this complimentary gift.
The colours are gorgeous, I`m not going to lie. I can totally understand why this palette, which was initially released for their 15th year anniversary is still available to purchase.

(Image 3)
L-R TOP - ABYSSINIA - SUGARLAND - FATHOM
L-R BOTTOM - CLEO - UNDERWORLD - NIGHT BREED

Favourite colour? Sugarland. It blends SO well into the colour of my skin and looks so natural yet bronze-y. Cannot wait to experiment with this colour.
Least favourite? Cleo - not drawing to the pastel blue, if I`m honest, but thats because its quite in your face colour.
If I had to purchase a single colour? Underworld. So heavily pigmented and such a rich deep blue. Beautiful. Or, Sugarland <3

+ Pros +
+ Its in a small compact palette, so great to put into your make up bag and get out when you`re getting ready for the evening after work, which is what NARS, I`m guessing had aimed for.
+5/6 colours are approachable.
+ Packaging is adorable, but NARS always get it perfect for packaging.

- Cons -
- I don`t like Cleo.
- Not really worth £37, for a mere 6 colours, when the UD Naked Palette offers a greater variety of shades, which are amazing quality/pigmentation, etc - retailing for £35! So, for £2 less you get a much nicer palette? Much better for money's worth.

Would I purchase this once finished? Probably not, based on the price. But, if I really, really liked Sugarland or Underworld, possibly buy them as singles?

Once, I start to experiment with the colours, I`ll share with you some FOTD's so you can see what I created.

Does anybody else have this palette? What colour combinations shall I try?

MW's Answers to Tahira's Interview

So, Tahira R approached me asking to take part in her interview. I quickly skimmed over the questions and I felt it was a great way to get other sisters to find out about sister bloggers. So, I happily accepted her offer.

Check out her post here to learn a little bit about me and why I started blogging.

Make sure you follow her, and the other sisters who participated in the interview. They all seem SO sweet! :)

Hope all you beautiful sisters are well.

Much love,
MW

MW's Snapshot Saturday

My week:

1. A new face wash I`ve been trying out since the 1st of January. A product review will be posted after I`ve trailed it for a month. So, look out for that. :)
2. If you follow my blog, you will know that getting back into photography was one of my resolutions, so I purchased a timer/remote thingy bob. Expect more OOTD's, hopefully!
3. Again, similar to 2, but this was a gift from a dear friend of mine, who has always supported/encouraged me in what I wanted to do (regardless of how crazy and wacky it could be, although, they did often tell me the Islamic perspective of my idea's - so it always grounded that crazy head of mine) and they sent this as a gift to me. Insha`Allah, I`ll make good use of it! And, thank you so much, if you`re reading this. :)
4. Revision.....again. Boo.

Other updates:
Weather has been AWFUL where I live, and looking at the news reports, I`m guessing it was the same all over the country. Hope everyone has stayed safe and no one's house/property were damaged.

Damp hijabs? NO, THANK YOU. Because, I`ve stayed at home and stayed warm wearing just my slippers around the house, I`ve injured my plantar fascia, again :( Thats the tissue that creates the arch in your foot. So, when the tissue becomes overused, it will cause pain and its called 'plantar fasciitis'. So, I often avoid injuring it by wearing heels, however, worn flats, damaged. Sad face.

But, back to damp hijabs, how do you guys overcome this issue? Do you carry another hijab around with you? Please share tips, as I`ve never worn a hijab in such horrendous weather before (being a hijabi newbie).

How was everyone`s new year? In my family, the tradition is, we (its really dorky, so you`ve been warned) switch the lights on and off at midnight for 30 seconds, then we hug each other and watch the fireworks on tv, although this year, the show was 12 minutes long and I got really bored so left after 2 minutes. Whoops. Also, we have the mentality, that if you`re happy at midnight, you`ll be happy for the rest of the year, if you`re miserable, you`ll be like that for the rest of the year...does anybody else have that state of mind about new years? Or, just my family? lol

ALSOOOOO, I`m doing the Photo-a-Day Challenge January 2012 over on Facebook, let me know if you want to see the images. If you do, I`ll come up with something, to show them on blogger.

Wow.

This has been my longest 'Snapshot Saturday' - anything to avoid revision, eh?

How has your week been? Comment below, I love talking to you girlies! :)

MW's EOTD: Au Natural Sleek Palette

Whirlers :) HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Lets kick the year off, with an EOTD!

To achieve this look, I used the five shades in the palette which have been circled:
CONKER = green
HONEYCOMB = lilac
MINERAL EARTH = yellow
TAUPE = blue
NOIR = pink

These are the 6 brushes I used to create this look.

1. I applied eyeshadow primer on just the eyelid, I used Urban Decay Primer Potion.

2. Using the 'a' brush, I applied 'CONKER', which is the shade circled in green, all over the eyelid.

3. Using the 'b' angled brush, I applied 'MINERAL EARTH' (yellow) to the outer corner, concentrating on creating a triangle. I also drew a smudged line on the lower lash line in the same shade.

4. Using the 'c' brush, I applied 'MINERAL EARTH' (yellow) filling in the triangle  towards the 3/4 mark.

5. I then used the 'a' brush again and blended the two colour together, concentrating on 'CONKER' (green) going over the 1/2 line and into the 3/4 line.

6. For more definition, I used 'NOIR' (pink) with the 'b' brush in the outer corner. Only a little bit is required.

7. Using a fluffy brush (which, I do not own) but I make do with my 'd' brush, I blended the edge out in small circular motions upwards, ensuring there were no harsh lines.

8. I then used my 'e' brush and applied 'TAUPE' (blue) to the inner corner (1/4) and blended it in with the 'CONKER' (green). I also applied the 'TAUPE' to the inner lower lash line, meeting the darker line from point 3.

9. Using my 'f' brush, I applied 'HONEYCOMB' (lilac) as a highlighter under my eyebrows and made sure its blended with my my eyeshadow softly.

10. Eyeliner, mascara, concealer and eyebrows defined...and, its done.

What do you think? Was this difficult to follow? What other colour combinations do you think is possible from this palette?
